EP188: Bare Minimum Dinners with Jenna Helwig
If you want to cook more at home, but don’t want to spend all night doing it, this is the episode for you! Join me today as I speak with author, Jenna Helwig. We’ll discuss how to simplify dinnertime so you can spend less time in the kitchen while still enjoying delicious meals. As I was flipping through Jenna’s new cookbook, the chapter titles resonated with me: Bare Minimum Time (30 minutes or less); Bare Minimum Ingredients (7 ingredients or less, including salt and olive oil); Bare Minimum Hands-On Time (slow-cooker and Instant Pot meals); Bare Minimum Clean-Up (one-pot/sheet pan/skillet meals); and Bare Minimum Sides (super-simple vegetables, salads, and grains so you can feel good about serving healthy, well-rounded dinners). Jenna’s advice for cooking is actually to do less: to pare back, to embrace some store-bought shortcuts, to eliminate fuss, and, in the process, extra dirty dishes.
About Jenna
Jenna is the author of the new cookbook Bare Minimum Dinners and the food director at Real Simple magazine. She’s a big believer that food is one of the very best parts of life, but preparing it doesn’t need to be complicated. Prior to joining Real Simple, Jenna was the food director at Health and Parents magazines. Jenna is also the founder and operator of Rosaberry, a personal chef services company that works with clients in Manhattan and Westchester. In addition to Bare Minimum Dinners, Jenna is the author of four other cookbooks, including the bestselling Baby-Led Feeding, focused on helping parents feed their families well, and with less stress, right from the start. Jenna has a culinary arts degree from the Institute of Culinary Education and lives in Brooklyn with her husband, teen, and adorable dog Pepper. She doesn’t have many hobbies outside of the kitchen, but she is an avid Yankees fan and enjoys spending time in the mountains.
