About Heather

Heather White is the Founder of One Green Thing and a nationally recognized conservation and environmental policy expert with more than twenty years of experience leading and advising non-profit organizations, including increasing organizational performance, and directing innovative advocacy campaigns. Her debut book, One Green Thing: Discover Your Hidden Power to Help Save the Planet, launches on April 19, 2022, with Harper Horizon. Heather was the Executive Director of Environmental Working Group, CEO of the nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park, and Director of Education Advocacy for the National Wildlife Federation. She also works as a consultant to help businesses, foundations, and nonprofits through her firm, Heather White Strategies, LLC, which she created in 2019.

Heather was inspired to write her debut book One Green Thing after a conversation with one of her teen daughters on eco-anxiety and feeling hopeless in the face of so much uncertainty. One Green Thing is Heather’s prescription for a daily sustainability practice, that will ease our eco-anxiety and contribute to the massive culture shift we need to combat the climate crisis.

Heather’s expertise has been featured in CBS This Morning, PBS News Hour, MSNBC, The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and many more internationally recognized media outlets. She is on the board of the Plastic Pollution Coalition, the Bozeman Symphony, Catawba College Center for the Environment, the MADE SAFE Advisory Council, and the Women in Sustainability Leadership Awards Alumnae Group. In 2015, Heather was named one of the “Top 20 Women Leaders in Sustainability” by Green Building & Design magazine and “100 Women to Watch in Wellness” by MindBodyGreen.

In her free time, Heather loves journaling, meditating, and spending time with her family in Bozeman, Montana where they’re based. She also loves to travel, and counts Yellowstone, South Island of New Zealand, and the Maasai Mara among her favorite places.
